1. How To Watch

How do I watch films and videos?

To watch films and videos on this site, you need to create your account and sign in (excluding YouTube videos).
・For details on how to create your account, please refer to "1. Creating your account/Sign in " on the "How to Watch " page.

*You must create your account even if you have previously created a Japanese Film Festival Online account or a JFF+ INDEPENDENT CINEMA account.

Where can I find the countries/regions where the videos are available?

After you create an account and sign in, films and videos that can be viewed in your country or region will be marked "Available Now."

Can the broadcast be publicly viewed?

The streamed films and videos may not be used for any purpose other than personal viewing. All content on the website (audio, images, video, etc.) is protected by copyright.

2. System environment

When the device is connected to a monitor, the screen is dark, or there is no sound.

We recommend viewing the site on the device you are accessing it from.

3. Useful features

What is the notice from the JF overseas office?

Information from the Japan Foundation offices worldwide includes film festivals, events, workshops, etc. You can select up to three offices.

What is a newsletter?

You will receive this site's latest lineup and other information, including video content such as Japanese movies and TV dramas. Please register with us.

4. Benefits of creating your account

What are the benefits of being a registered user?

You can:
・Watch films and videos (Youtube videos can be viewed without registration)
・Post comments on works
・Update user information on My Page
・Add/delete My List
・Receive/Unsubscribe to News from JF overseas offices

Can I delete a comment?

Comments do not be deleted. If you wish to delete a comment, please contact us via the "Contact Us" page and provide the following information:

・Title
・Username
・Posting date
・The comment itself

*As a principle, we only accept deletion requests from the person who submitted the comment. Please note that even if you send us the above information, we may be unable to delete the comment, as we may not confirm that the request came from the person who submitted the comment.

I want to update my user information.

You can update the user information by going to "My Account/Personal Details" and following the steps below.

Updating your personal details

  1. Hover over or tap on the "My Account" icon in the navigation bar, then click "Personal Details" to access "My Account/Personal Details."
  2. Change your Details
  3. Click the Update button

*If you wish to change your password, please do so from the "Password reissue" page.
*Registered email addresses cannot be changed. If you want to change your email address, please register as a new free user and create another account.
* If you are signed out, please try to sign in again.

I would like to stop receiving notifications from JF overseas offices.

You can change your settings to receive or stop them anytime by going to "My Account/Personal Details."

*Please note that after changing your delivery setting to "Not receive," you may still receive News for about a week.
*If you still receive News after taking the above steps, please contact us via "Contact Us."

5. Other

I can't log in.

If you cannot sign in, the following cases and solutions may be possible.

Email address or password are incorrect
・There is an unnecessary space
・Uppercase and lowercase letters are incorrect

Forgotten password
Refer to “2. System Environment” for more details on how to reset your password.

Forgotten email address
Refer to “5. Other” for more details on how to check your email address.

I don't know the email address.

You can check the email address registered to your JFF Theater account by following the steps below.

If you are signed
1. Hover over or tap the "My Account" icon on the navigation bar, then click "Personal Details" to access "MyAccount/Personal Details"
2. Check the address listed in "Email Address"

If you are signed out
After registering for your account with JFF Theater, you will receive an email from the address below. Please look in your inbox on your PC or smartphone to see if you have received such an email.

I haven't received the provisional registration completion email.

If you have completed provisional registration on the "Free User Registration"screen but have not received a "Provisional Registration Completion Email," please check the following.

Look in your spam folder
Please look in your spam folder, as emails from the JFF Theater Management Team may have ended there.

Check your reception permission settings
・Please check the settings for receiving emails on your device.
・Confirm your email address has been set to be accepted emails.
・If your email address is from a mobile carrier, it may be set to reject PC email addresses or have other specified reception settings.
・Also, if the anti-spoofing level is set to High, you may not be able to receive some messages. Please try lowering the level to see if you can receive the messages.

What should I do if I forget my password?

You can reissue your password. Go to the "Password reissue" page, enter the email address you used when creating your account, and click the "Reissue" button. We will send you an email for resetting your password, so click the authentication URL in the email, enter your new password, and click/tap the "Reissue" button to complete the reissue.

*Please note that the authentication URL is valid for 10 minutes. If 10 minutes have passed, please sign in again from the Password Reset page.

I would like to unsubscribe from the newsletter.

You can unsubscribe the newsletter as follows:

Unsubscribe the newsletter

  1. Hover over or tap on the "My Account" icon in the navigation bar, then click "Personal Details" to access "My Account/Personal Details."
  2. Click the Don’t subscribe button in the Newsletter subscription section.
  3. Click the Update button

*If you have subscribed to the newsletter without creating an account and would like to stop receiving it, please unsubscribe the newsletter you received.
*If you still receive an email after taking the above steps, please contact us via “Contact Us.”

I want to cancel my membership.

If you wish to delete your account, please follow the steps below.

Notes when deleting your account
* Your My List will be reset.
* Films and Videos that require to be signed in will no longer be available for viewing.

Deleting Your Account procedure

  1. Click the Creating Your Account/Sign In icon on the navigation bar.
  2. Enter your email address and password to sign in.
  3. Hover over or tap on the "My Account" icon in the navigation bar, then click "Personal Details" to access "My Account/Personal Details."
  4. Click "Delete your Account" at the bottom of the page
  5. Select the most appropriate reason for cancellation, and click the Delete Your Account button.
  6. Your cancellation is complete once the "Cancellation completed" message appears on your screen.

*Please note that even if you cancel your membership, any comments you made with your previous account will be changed to the username "unknown-user" and will remain on the site.
