How to Watch
We will show you how to create your account/sign in and watch films and videos.
*Unfortunately, it is not available in Japan to watch films and videos. The country/region distribution may vary depending on the title. For details, please check the page of “Films and Videos” or each title’s page.
1. Create your account/Sign In
To watch streaming contents, you need to create your account and sign in. If you do not sign in, the screen system does not work.
The play button will only be displayed if you sign in and the content is available.
Steps for Creating your account
On the "Free User Registration" screen, please enter the "Username," "Email address," "Country/region of residence," "Password," "Newsletter subscription option," and "JF Overseas Office Notification option."
After reviewing the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use, please check the boxes and click or tap the “Provisional Registration” button.
You will receive a confirmation email to your email address. Please access the authentication URL in the email within 10 minutes.
"You are almost in completing your registration of JFF Theater" appears on the screen, so click "Creating Your Account" button.
You will find the sentence “Your registration has been successfully completed. "
2. Manage Your Language Preference
Please click the " Globe icon: Language selection " button on the navigation bar. Select the language you want to display.
3. Search for Title
When you find the title that you want to watch, you use "Search" function or "Films and Videos" on the navigation bar.
How to Search
Click the magnifying glass icon: Search site on the navigation bar.
Enter the keyword for the work you want to see and press the "magnifying glass icon: search" button again.
From the search results, click on the work you want to watch. You will be taken to the "Video Details Page" of each work. You can play the video on the "Video Details Page".
Search from “Films and Videos”
Press the three-line icon: Menu, then press Video List .
Click the "Filter" button. You can filter the videos by "Streaming Status," "Keywords," "Subtitles," etc.
From the search results, click on the work you want to watch. You will be taken to the "Video Detail Page" of each work. You can play the video on the "Video Detail Page".
4. Watch Films and Videos
Open the "Video Details Page" of the work you want to watch and press the "Play button" to begin playback.
Setting Method 1: Volume Adjustment and Fullscreen Display
Adjusting the volume: Move the "volume slider" at the bottom right of the viewing screen left or right. On a smartphone, use the volume adjustment buttons on the smartphone itsel.
Full screen: Press the "Full screen" button at the bottom right of the viewing screen. To exit full screen, press the "Cancel" button.
Setting Method 2: Resolution, Playback Speed, and Subtitles
Resolution selection: Press the "︙" button at the bottom right of the viewing screen. Press the "Resolution" button and select the desired resolution.
Select the playback speed: Press the "︙" button at the bottom right of the viewing screen. Press the "Playback Speed" button and select the desired speed.
Select subtitles: Press the "︙" button at the bottom right of the viewing screen. Press the "Subtitles" menu and select the subtitles you want.
5. About watching YouTube videos
You can also watch YouTube videos at the JFF Theater. YouTube videos are marked with the YouTube play symbol.
6. Screening Period
Each work has a set "distribution period." The distribution period is based on Japan time and is displayed on the "video details page" of each work.
Even if you are currently viewing a work, you will no longer be able to view it when the distribution period ends.
7. Comment of the Title
Once you've watched the film, please comment.
You must sign in to comment. Comments posted will be displayed after being checked by the Japan Foundation. It may take several days for your comment to appear. Please read Article 5 of the Terms of Use before posting a comment.
Even if you cancel your membership, any comments you made with your previous account will remain on the site, with the nickname changed to "unknown-user."
Click the "Work Summary" tab on the " Video Details Page "
Go to the "Comments" section at the bottom of the page and write your comment in the text box.
Check the box "Is it OK to submit your comment?" and press the "Submit" button.
Once the Japan Foundation reviews it, your comment will be posted on the site.
