Story
The existence of "literary translators" is indispensable for Japanese literature to be enjoyed around the world. However, while Japanese literary works have been gaining attention overseas in recent years, the work of translators, who are the driving force behind this, has not received much attention until now. The Japan Foundation (JF) interviewed six translators from around the world who translate Japanese literature into foreign languages, and explored their work, which can be called a "bridge" that connects different cultures through language.
Katja Cassing
Katja Cassing is a German translator and publisher based in the central German town of Bad Berka. While running her own publishing company, Cass Verlag, she has translated numerous works of Japanese literature into German, among them The Paradise Bird Tattoo by Kurumatani Chokitsu (Akame 48 Waterfalls on film) and The Lakeside Murder Case by Higashino Keigo.
